A delegation from Tottori University, Japan, visited Samarkand State University. The delegation is led by Atsushi Tsunekawa, Vice-President of Tottori University. The delegation members include Kinya Akashi (Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture), Mitsuro Tsubo (Director of the Arid Land Research Center), Takusaburo Kimura (senior staff member of the center and JICA representative), and Professor Ryo Nishimura.

The delegation of Japanese scientists was received by the Rector of Samarkand State University, Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan and member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rustam Khalmuradov.

University scientists and industry experts also participated in the meeting. The negotiations focused on joint research in regenerative agriculture in the arid regions of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, the establishment of the international scientific-practical center “Desert Center of Excellence (DCE)” at Samarkand State University, ensuring food security through sustainable natural resource management, and maintaining ecological balance. It was emphasized that this center would be the first and only of its kind in the region to operate in these specific fields. Specific agreements were reached at the conclusion of the meeting.

The Japanese scientists also visited the campus of the Institute of Agrobiotechnology and Food Security at Samarkand State University, where they observed the ongoing construction work.
