Institute of Languages and Cultures of the Peoples of Central Asian – A Center for Science and Enlightenment
The Institute of Languages and Cultures of Central Asian Peoples, much like Samarkand State University, traces its origins back to the history of the Madrasah founded by the great scholar Mirzo Ulugbek. It represents the logical continuation of the “Ilmu lison” (science of languages) and “Ilmu adab” (science of literature) complex of that madrasah into the 21st century, serving as a spiritual and educational center where ancient scientific traditions blend harmoniously with a modern educational system.
The recent history of the Institute of Languages and Cultures of Central Asian Peoples is closely intertwined with the new history of our university, having been established in 1927 under the name of the Faculty of Philology. For over a century, this institution has fostered profound scientific traditions in the fields of linguistics, literary studies, and Turkology, becoming one of the leading centers for language and literature education in our country.
The invaluable contributions of prominent figures in Uzbek and world philological science – Abdurauf Fitrat, Abdurahmon Sa’diy, G‘ozi Olim Yunusov, Abdurahmon Sa’diy, Sadriddin Ayniy, Vohid Abdullayev, Ulug‘ Tursunov, Yevgeniy Polivanov, Abdulla Sulaymonov, Orif Ikromov, Xudoyberdi Doniyorov, G‘ani Abdurahmonov, Rahim Muqimov, Botirxon Valixo‘jayev, Rahmatulla Qo‘ng‘urov, Nuriddin Shukurov, Rahmonqul Orzibekov, Vahob Egamov, Abdujabbor Muxtorov, and Nazar Rajabov – to the formation and development of the Institute are immeasurable.
