On November 6, 2025, a delegation from the People's Republic of Bangladesh, led by Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Minister of Education, visited Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov.

The reception ceremony for this delegation took place in an unconventional manner, as a conference themed “Education for Sustainable Development”.

His Excellency Muhammad Monirul Islam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan, and Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Minister of Education of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, participated in the event.

The event was opened by Rustam Khalmuradov, Rector of Samarkand State University, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, who warmly welcomed the guests.

Ambassador Muhammad Monirul Islam emphasized the necessity of further developing friendly relations and cooperation in the field of education between the two countries, specifically highlighting the historical cities of Uzbekistan and the scientific heritage left by great intellectual scholars. Following this, Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Minister of Education, delivered a presentation on “Education for Sustainable Development”, discussing the implementation of sustainable development principles in the education system, innovative teaching methods, opportunities for scientific exchange, Bangladesh’s education system, international projects and student exchanges, and the research conducted by scholars from both countries.

At the end of the meeting, Rustam Khalmuradov expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh delegation for their visit and conveyed his desire to further expand mutual scientific and educational cooperation, strengthen long-term mutually beneficial partnership, effectively utilize laboratory resources, establish strategic cooperation between Samarkand State University and universities in Bangladesh, thereby organizing scientific research, student exchanges, and workshops for faculty, as well as implementing projects funded by UNESCO and Asian Development Bank grants.
