Frank Thomas, a Professor of the University of Trier (Germany) came to teach and conduct joint research for students of the Faculty of Biology of Samarkand State University.

    In particular, in addition to teaching students, the scientist, together with Associate Professor of the Department of Botany of SamSU Akbar Akhmedov, conducted research in the mountain ranges of Nurata and Turkestan (Zaamin) and the southwestern Kyzylkum desert.

    During the expedition, plant samples were taken to study the resistance of Haloxylon aphyllum (black saxaul), Calligonum caput-medusae (sugar grass), Populus pruinosa (turanga) and Tamarix hisb (yulgun) to anthropogenic and abiotic factors (dehydration and salinization). These samples are currently being analyzed in the Geobotany Laboratory of the University of Trier.
