Since 2010, Samarkand State University and Ural Federal University (UrFU) have maintained a cooperation agreement. Under this partnership, UrFU history students complete their museum and educational field practice in Samarkand and also visit museums in Tashkent and Bukhara during study excursions.

    The internship goes far beyond classroom lectures. Students explore the history, religion, and culture of the region, participate in archaeological excavations at the ancient settlement of Afrasiab, visit Samarkand's museums, and conduct guided tours along the city's historical and tourist routes.

    For UrFU history students, a visit to Samarkand is much more than an academic field trip – it is a genuine journey into the depths of history. They immerse themselves in a unique environment where every archaeological layer preserves the legacy of the Sogdians, the Kara-Khanid State, and the Timurid Empire.

    By studying the history of Sogdiana and the Timurid Empire, students learn to view the past not as a static text but as a living, multifaceted dialogue of civilizations. Interaction with local historians and custodians of cultural heritage broadens their perspectives. They return home not only with successfully completed field training but also with a profound understanding that they have become part of the ongoing scholarly chronicle of one of the world's oldest historic cities.
