"Turkic World" Kuroltai – in Samarkand
One hundred years ago, the I Turkological Kuroltai took place in Baku with a special provision stating: “The II Kuroltai should be convened in 1928 in Samarkand”.
From February 26 to March 6, 1926, the I Turkological Kuroltai was held in Baku where important issues such as the future of Turkic languages, alphabet reform, terminology, literary language and other significant matters were discussed. One of the most important decisions made by the Kuroltai was to transition from the Arabic alphabet to the Latin alphabet. The Kuroltai’s decisions included a special provision for holding the II Turkological Kuroltai in 1928 in Uzbekistan’s capital Samarkand.
The Kuroltai provided a strong impetus for cultural and scientific unification among Turkic peoples. Its significance in the history and culture of the Turkic world is unparalleled. Unfortunately, the decision to hold the II Turkological Kuroltai in Samarkand in 1928 was not realized. A hundred years later, Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov is organizing this historical Kuroltai in the cultural capital of the Turkic world – Samarkand together with the Turkish Language Institution, Yunus Emre Institute and Marmara University.
On June 5-6, 2026, 70 foreign researchers from all Turkic countries and 26 Uzbek scholars will hold a Kuroltai on Turkology that has been passed down from our ancestors and fulfill their will!
Join us during the days of the Kuroltai!!!
