About the Department of Human and Animal Physiology and Biochemistry The Department of Human and Animal Physiology at Samarkand State University was established in 1934. At the time of its establishment, V. Popov served as the head of the department. In 1944, this department merged with the Department of Biochemistry and was named the Department of Human and Animal Physiology and Biochemistry, headed by Prof. P. Faktorovich. Until 1970, the department was headed by Professor Bakhrom Yusupovich Khamrakulov. During this period, research work was conducted at the department on "Physiology of Nutrition", "Electrophysiology", "Hematology", and "Biochemistry of Microelements". Prominent professors and teachers such as Chianurov, Mamayeva, Ataullakhanov, Abdullayeva, Kadyrova, Isakov, Bakoyev, A.Sh. Toghaynazarov, M. Safin conducted their scientific research in these scientific directions. In 1970-1972, the department was headed by the famous academician Yo.Kh. Turakulov, who served as the rector of the university. In 1972-1993, Prof. M. Rish continued as the head of the department, supervising scientific research work on the topic "Use of Microelements in Developing Animal Husbandry in Biochemical Regions of Uzbekistan" and organizing the problem laboratory "Biochemistry of Microelements". Under the guidance of the famous scientist, 6 doctors of science and about 60 candidates of science were trained. |

In 1993-1998, the department was headed by Professor Ya. Nuritdinov. During this period, research work was conducted on the topic "Mechanism of Neuropeptide Regulation of Higher Nervous Activity". In 1998, due to the merger of the Department of "Human Anatomy and Physiology" of the former Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute, the scientific and pedagogical potential of the department further increased. In 1999-2005, the department was headed by Professor M. Uralov. During this period, scientific research was conducted at the department on the topic "Evolutionary, Eco-Physiological and Biochemical Foundations of Animal Biology", during which department members A. Rajabov (scientific supervisor Prof. M.A. Rish), B. Bozorov (scientific supervisor Prof. Ya. Nuritdinov), G. Dushanova (scientific supervisor Prof. N. Khayitova) successfully defended their candidate dissertations. In 2005, the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology was merged into the department, and it was named the Department of Physiology, Genetics and Biochemistry. In 2005-2011, Associate Professor M.G. Safin headed the department. During his tenure, scientific research work was carried out jointly with Professor M. Uralov under international grant project No. 31.04. Also during this period, in 2009, department postgraduate student M. Ioselevich successfully defended his candidate dissertation. During those years, the department offered master's programs in 3 specialties (5A420105 – Human and Animal Physiology, 5A420109 – Biochemistry, 5A420110 – Biotechnology). |

Currently, the department employs 1 Doctor of Science, Professor, 2 Candidates of Science, Professors, 3 Candidates of Science, Associate Professors, 4 PhDs, and 3 assistant lecturers. The department members have established cooperation agreements with SamSMI, SamVMI, NUUz, SamSU, FerSU, AndSU, TashSPU, GulSU, BukhSU, KarSU, TermSU, Navoi and Jizzakh pedagogical universities, as well as relevant laboratories of the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences, Institute of Chemistry of Plant Substances, Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry under NUUz, Research Institute of Parasitology named after Isayev, Research Institute of Karakul Breeding and Desert Ecology, and Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine. Within the framework of these agreements, researchers such as professors, teachers, doctoral students, and master's students of the department carry out their research work. In addition, cooperation relations have been established with the American company «VetVittles», the All-Russian Research Institute of Physiology, Biochemistry and Nutrition of Animals – a branch of the Federal Scientific Center for Animal Husbandry named after Academician L.K. Ernst, the All-Russian Research and Technological Institute of Poultry Breeding of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and relevant departments and scientific laboratories of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy. Currently, E. Gurman, head of the company «VetVittles», Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, works at the department. |

To date, the professors and teachers of the department have created over 50 textbooks, study manuals, lecture texts, educational-methodological manuals, complexes, and guidelines. They have also published about 20 monographs, about 900 scientific articles, and over 150 popular science articles. Currently, the department is conducting scientific research work on the topic “Morpho-Biochemical and Physiological Aspects of Increasing Productivity Indicators of Farm Animals in the Zarafshan Oasis (Middle Course)”. In the future, the department plans to select talented bachelors and master's students, continue studies in basic doctoral studies and doctoral studies (DSc) in relevant specialties to increase the scientific potential of the department, strengthen cooperation relations with leading higher education institutions, research institutes, and scientific centers of the republic and foreign countries, increase the volume of scientific research work carried out at the department, participate in the implementation of international and republican scientific projects and innovative projects, and conduct scientific research work based on economic contracts.
