Roman Yakovlev Viktorovich

Doctor of Biological Sciences (DSc), Professor. Since 2023, he has been working at Samarkand State University. He is the curator of the butterfly collection at the Thomas Witt Entomology Museum in Munich, Germany.

Roman Yakovlev defended his dissertation on the topic "Systematics and Zoogeography of Ancient Woodboring Butterflies (Lepidoptera: Cossidae)" in 2014 and earned the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences (DSc).

He is the author of 12 monographs and over 400 scientific papers. More than 300 of his articles have been published in SCOPUS journals. His Hirsch-index is 17. Over 130 scientific articles have been published in Web of Science journals.

Roman Yakovlev has organized over 50 expeditions across Siberia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, South Caucasus, Africa, and Latin America. These expeditions resulted in the largest Cossidae family collection in the world.

He is the leader of the project “Endemic, Local, and Invasive Arthropods of the South Siberian and Central Asian Mountains (Arthropoda): A Unique Hotspot of Biological Diversity and Genofund,” scheduled for 2023-2025.

Nazmutdinov Renat Ravilovich

Doctor of Chemical Sciences (DSc), Professor. Since 2025, he has been working at Samarkand State University. He began his scientific career in 1983 after graduating from the Kazan Institute of Chemical Technology (KCTI). Since then, he has been continuously affiliated with KCTI and later with the Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU).

His scientific research is focused on quantum electrochemistry, microscopic mechanisms of electron and proton transfer reactions, interphase media, redox-active complexes, nanoparticles, and ionic liquids. Fundamental research conducted under his leadership has been internationally recognized and served as the basis for experimental studies in several countries.

Renat Ravilovich is a prominent international scientist, a full member of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) and the American Chemical Society (ACS). He is a member of two dissertation councils at KNRTU, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Oil, Chemistry, and Nanotechnology, and the Council of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. He also leads a scientific seminar on theoretical chemistry in Kazan.

His teaching activity is also highly regarded. He conducts lectures and practical classes in Russian and English on "General and Inorganic Chemistry," "Nanochemistry," and "Redox Processes in Nanoscale Systems: Theory and Computer Modeling." He has also developed and successfully teaches an original course in quantum chemistry.

His scientific potential and international collaborations have been supported by prestigious scholarships and grants, including DAAD, DFG, HPC-Europa++, OeAAD, as well as the "Algarysh" grant from the Republic of Tatarstan. Between 1998 and 2001, he was twice awarded the titles of "Soros Associate Professor" and "Soros Professor."

Nazmutdinov Renat Ravilovich is an accomplished scientist and dedicated mentor who has made a significant contribution to the development of modern chemical science, training of researchers, and fostering international scientific cooperation.

Doctor of Chemical Sciences (DSc), Professor. Since 2019, he has been working at Samarkand State University. In 1997, Yuriy Galyametdinov earned the degree of Doctor of Chemical Sciences (DSc) by defending his dissertation on the topic: “Synthesis and properties of liquid crystal metal complexes.”

Throughout his academic and scientific career, he has authored 27 textbooks, 22 teaching manuals, 20 methodological guides, 20 monographs, 7 patents, and more than 800 scientific articles.

Omer Hazman

Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor. Since 2021, he has been working in the Department of Organic Synthesis and Bioorganic Chemistry at the Institute of Biochemistry, Samarkand State University. In 2011, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Study of the Effect of Oral Antidiabetic Drug Sitagliptin on Oxidant-Antioxidant Balance in Experimental Type 2 Diabetes Model in Rats.” He is also the winner of more than 20 international and national grant projects.

Professor Omer Hazman continues his research on the anticancer activity of certain bioactive compounds isolated from plant tissues: inducing apoptosis, inflammation, and genotoxic activity through the Estrogen Receptor-α signaling pathway in cancer cells.

He has published nearly 53 papers in scientific journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. He is the author of 2 international patents. Additionally, he has participated in more than 40 international and local conferences and symposia, presenting abstracts.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of polymer chemistry, professor. He has been working at the Department of Polymer Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Samarkand State University since 2022.

In 2002 Ibrohim Erol obtained the degree of Doctor of Chemistry (DSc) on "Synthesis and characterization of mesityl rings of trisubstituted cyclobutane ketoethyl with 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene, 1,3,3-methacrylate monomers and polymers". 

84 research articles by Ibrohim Erol have been published in journals included in the Web of Science database. The Hirsch index value is 18. More than 80 papers have been published in the Scopus database. He participated in national and international symposia and conferences with more than 30 articles.

Muhammad Zafar

Philosophy Doctor in Biological Sciences Muhammad Zafar has been working as an adjunct professor at the Department of Botany, Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov since 2022. Together with the faculty members of the department, he has co-authored more than 30 scientific articles published in journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.
Since 2011, PhD Muhammad Zafar has been working at Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan. He is currently a professor at the university's Herbarium and Department of Botany. He is a well-known researcher in the fields of medicinal plants, plant biodiversity, and plant systematics and taxonomy. He is the author of more than 450 scientific works, including 306 scientific articles and 11 international textbooks and teaching aids. He has supervised 13 PhD students. Over 400 of his scientific articles have been published in Scopus-indexed journals, and his h-index is 46. More than 250 of his papers have been published in Web of Science journals.
From 2021 to 2024, he led the project titled “Heavy metal accumulation, health risk assessment and plant adaptation strategies in wild vegetable and fruit species of Muzaffarabad Division Azad Kashmir.”

Dr. Dragana D. Ranđelović

is a multidisciplinary researcher in environmental protection, particularly focused on ecological restoration and remediation of degraded lands using geobotanical and biogeochemical approaches.

Her recent research interests include the effects of climate change on the rock–soil–plant nexusthe application of plant physiology in selecting species for ecological restoration, and the transformation of plant biomass into functional materials.

Since 2019, she has been working as a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Technology of Nuclear and Other Mineral Raw Materials in Belgrade.

She is a member of the Global Society for Ecological Restoration and the Serbian Society of Soil Science.
Dr. Ranđelović is a co-author of 2 educational manuals7 international monographs, and has published over 80 scientific papers. She has participated in various national and international research projects addressing complex environmental topics.

PhD in Biology. Since 2025, he has been working as a professor (external part-time) at the Department of Botany of Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov. Together with the faculty members, he has co-authored scientific articles published in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.

Since 2006, he has been working at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, Institute of Botany. Currently, he holds the position of professor at the Department of Botany of the same institute. His research mainly focuses on molecular ecology, biogeography, plant ecology, biodiversity conservation, bryophyte biology and biotechnology, as well as issues related to these areas.

He is the founder and head of the South-East European Bryological Association and an active member of numerous scientific societies and working groups. At present, he serves as a reviewer for more than 90 international scientific journals and as a member of the editorial boards of over 15 journals. PhD in Molecular Neuroscience, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Begmatova earned her PhD in Molecular Neuroscience in 2023 at Ariel University (Israel) under the supervision of Prof. Albert Pinhasov. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the relationship between maternal immune activation, inherited stress vulnerability, and adolescent cannabinoid exposure.

Since 2024, she has been conducting postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Dekel Rosenfeld (Tel Aviv University, Department of Biomedical Engineering), where she investigates TRPV1 thermosensitive ion channel activation under magnetic hyperthermia to regulate corticosterone release and anxiety-related behavior.

She is the author of more than 15 scientific publications, including papers in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity (Q1, IF>7), Frontiers in Pharmacology (Q1), Advanced Theory and Simulations (Q1), and manuscripts submitted to Neuropsychopharmacology (Q1). Her Hirsch index (Scopus) is 5.

Her main research interests include neuroendocrine regulation of stress, molecular mechanisms of anxiety, maternal immune activation, TRPV1-mediated pathways, and nanotechnological approaches in neurobiomedicine.

Her experience includes an internship at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST, Seoul) and teaching at the Department of Medical and Biological Chemistry, Samarkand State Medical University (2013–2018).

Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor. Since 2025, Frank Thomas has been serving as an adjunct professor at the Department of Botany, Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov. In collaboration with the department’s faculty members, he publishes scientific papers in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.

Since June 2006, he has been a Professor of Geobotany (V3) at the University of Trier, Faculty of Spatial and Environmental Sciences, Department of Geobotany.

His research focuses on:
— water and nutrient relationships between plants and soil;
— plant adaptation and acclimation to environmental and climatic conditions;
— morphological, anatomical, and physiological responses of plants to stress factors (nutrient deficiency or excess, drought, flooding, cold, defoliation);
— nutrient budgets of forest ecosystems;
— factorial studies on oak decline in Central Europe;
— ecology of ecosystems in arid regions.

Prof. Thomas serves as a permanent expert reviewer for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and is a member of the editorial board of Flora – Morphology, Distribution, Functional Ecology of Plants (Basel).

Dr. Muhammad Azhar Nadeem is a PhD in Biological Sciences and has been serving as an Associate Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov since 2025. He also holds an Associate Professorship in Plant Biotechnology at Mersin University, Türkiye.

He earned his PhD in 2019 from the Department of Field Crops, Faculty of Agriculture, Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University, with the dissertation titled “Identification of Genomic Regions and Associations of Different Agronomic Traits in Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Germplasm (GWAS).”

In 2020, he began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Sivas University of Science and Technology, where he was awarded the title of Associate Professor on January 27, 2023.

His research has been supported by ERA-NET SusCrop, COST-Action, TÜBİTAK (1001, 1003, 1007) and university-funded (BAP) projects. His main research interests include plant breeding, plant genomics, next-generation sequencing (NGS), DNA molecular markers, germplasm evaluation, and marker-assisted selection (MAS) in cereal and legume crops.

Currently, he supervises three PhD and one master’s student, and has successfully guided several other graduate and doctoral researchers.
