    (What to do before arrival)

Preparing to enter the Republic of Uzbekistan: Below is a basic check-list for what you need to do before you leave your country of origin. If you are starting your preparations, use this list as your guideline; if you have finished your preparation, please double-check if there is anything you have left out!

  • Check the cost of living in Uzbekistan.
  • Check out the visa requirements.
  • Check out the residential requirement.
  • Collect the visa approval from the university.
  • Submit the necessary documents to the consulate or embassy of Uzbekistan in your country (country of origin).
  • Ask from university contact person about accommodation.
  • Getting a visa.
  • Packing your luggage.
  • Discuss your desired dates of traveling and entering the accommodation.
  • Book your flight.
  • Prepare a credit card/ convert the currency at the airport for local expenditure.
  • Discuss local traveling with the contact person. Book a train ticket, if it is required.
  • Pack your necessary documents about your identity and the university’s verification.

    Post-Arrival

    (What to do after arrival)

After Arrival: After entering the Republic of Uzbekistan. Please follow these guidelines to avoid problems.

  • Arriving at the Airport: You need to show your identity (a valid passport) to the immigration officer along with necessary documents showing your purpose of visit. Your passport will be stamped with the immigration seal. Further, it will be used to get a residential permit for a specific period.
  • Custom Procedures: It involves the checking of luggage and hand baggage to ensure that you are not carrying anything illegal.
  • Exchanging Money: You should convert some money as per your need for a couple of days to live in Uzbekistan to avoid problems. Afterward, you can convert your currency from any bank. For conversion of currency, the bank will ask for your valid passport and residential permit. You should carry major currency notes instead of your currency. Because most of the banks work in euros and dollars.
  • Assistance Upon Arrival: The international support center provides you uninterrupted support upon arrival at Tashkent and Samarkand Airport. Our support team will assist you in getting a taxi from Tashkent to Samarkand, Samarkand airport to Boulevard, and a train ticket from Tashkent to Samarkand, depending on your preference and availability.
  • Receiving Upon Arrival: Our team will receive you and assist you in entering the accommodation (designated for you as per availability and your requirements).
  • Providing hassle-free connectivity: The International Support Center (ISC) will provide you a wifi and password for connecting with your family after you arrive at the university or in your accommodation.
  • Residential Permit: Our team will collect your passport with the required fee to obtain a residential permit from the local authorities of Samarkand city.

    Bank Accounts

    A bank savings account allows you to make deposits, transfer funds, accept overseas remittances, pay utility bills automatically, and perform credit card payments and currency exchanges, etc. Most banks are open from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday. ATM services are available outside of business hours. Money can be deposited and withdrawn at ATMs, but transaction fees may apply. You can find ATMs at banks and many convenience stores.

    You need a bank account to receive a scholarship or salary. However, many Japanese financial institutions do not allow foreign residents to open an account until they have lived in Japan for six months or longer.

    Here we will provide information on banks that allow foreigners to open accounts soon after arriving in Japan. Here is a list of a few banks to open your account:

    The International Support Center offers a variety of assistance to all newly arrived international students and researchers to allow them to transition into their lives in Samarkand with ease. As the process of opening a bank account will likely involve filling out application forms and communicating with bank personnel in Uzbeks, the International Support Center offers support services to all international students, researchers, and faculty members to complete the registration procedures. We will make the appointment with the bank and accompany the applicants to the bank to assist in completing the formalities.

    Mobile Phones and SIM card

    Our support team will extend you the necessary support in registering your mobile phone if you like to stay for one month. If your stay is less than 1 one month, don’t need to register your mobile phone. For uninterrupted communication, you need a SIM card. To purchase a sim card, our support team will assist you.
