“History of Uzbekistan. Volume IX. History of Samarkand. The executive editor and head of the creative team is SamSU professor Bobur Goyibov. The book of the same name in Latin and Cyrillic was created by scientists from the history department of Samarkand State University. The collective monograph covers the history of the city of Samarkand from ancient times to the present day and sums up the results of the next half century.

      The 470-page monograph is dedicated to the history of Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world. The study covers the earliest and most ancient period of the central Zarafshan oasis, the emergence and antiquity of the city of Samarkand, the early Middle Ages (V-VIII), the developed Middle Ages (IX-XIV), the era of Amir Temur and the Timurids, the Uzbek khanates, the period, the period of colonialism of the Russian Empire, the period Soviet totalitarianism, the history of the modern period of the city. When creating the monograph, we take into account the fact that the central oasis of Zarafshan was one of the centers of human civilization, the emergence of the city of Samarkand and its important political significance as the center of various states in history, the fact that the city was at the center of cultural processes in different periods, and its place among cities of the region, the development of the country during the years of independence. The study is intended for historians, archaeologists, ethnologists and the general public interested in the history of the Motherland.
